An unusual holiday excursion

This is a very strange year - there really don't seem to be enough hours in the day now, doing five days a week at the facotry and then every weekend caring for Dawn, but when all's said and done,  it's a pretty good life really.  What I could have done without, with my already very slow internet connection is the problems my ISP are now having with their line providers, who don't want to supply 56k dial up lines any more.  I get interruptions to my connection at random times, and sometimes it is taking up to half an hour just to get connected - and then the speed is even slower than normal.  I could blame that for the lack of blogs lately, but then I've been very remiss for a while now - too busy and too tired.

I now have a couple of hours peace and quiet while at Dawn's and was thinking about my annual holiday at the start of the month - very adventurous, a four day visit to my sister on the Isle of Man.  I've been there a couple of times before as some of you will know, but it really is a lovely place, the atmosphere is very like when I grew up (1950's), though an influx of wealthy British (for example Jeremy Clarkson - who seems to have gone out of his way to antagonise the islanders) is slowly changing life, in particular making housing too expensive for local people.

Home Sweet Home!

I did enjoy my holiday....quite a bit really.....but I am glad to be home .....two weeks in a tent with hubby and 'Kevin' was quite enough ....especially as 'kevin' was behaving like the teenager from hell and hubby was treating him all softly softly.....I know it was just to keep the peace but it became rather grating after the first week........fortunately 'kevin' came round after being threatened by grounding for a year.....loss of computer and anything else I could throw at him.....but I was exhausted by it all....the daft thing is he can be so lovely ...but when he is bad....he is very very bad!!!!
I also had to keep reminding them that there were three people on this holiday as they trundled off to play golf leaving me to clear up the dishes....close up the tent etc....it sounds like nothing but when you have to walk to the nearest sink five minutes away to wash up and zip up the tent, re peg etc.....you can't just close the door behind you......it is a good hour's work.........
But anyway we arrived home safe and sound and that was a lovely experience......I mean arriving home......for the first time my house was empty whilst we were away....I left it clean and I came home to it clean......no mess of parties, cooking, unclean loos, filthy floors or piles of washing that never made it's way to the washing machine as mum was away........It felt like luxury!!!
It has taken me a few days to clean and put away all the camping stuff but that is just one of those things.........
Now my thoughts have turned to work as the school holidays are coming to the end.....always a tricky time after the summer holidays.....after being off for the summer my thoughts and dreams are always about being a lady of leisure.....and me time!!

Do you sometimes wonder why you are here?

Does this sound familiar - or am I just a mug?  I don't think I am - I think all working, juggling Mums feel a bit of a drudge now and then, and today it's my turn!

This week I have done very little for myself and have had nothing done for me.

My husband has been working in Norway all week and when he came back on Friday we were due to go straight to Wales for the weekend.

He had left me (very kindly - not) a list of jobs to get done - bearing in mind it is my  holiday time at the minute too.
Make sure you sort the builder out for the roof, take the ironing , make sure Joe gets plenty of golf practice at the pitch andputt, make sure he goes to kickboxing twice this week,  make sure he does some homework, take some photos of him so he can write a thank you letter blah blah blah.

That I could take.

Then a trip to London for me got in the way of it so I was going to catch the train from London to the seaside and meet them there.

Which added something else into my equation for the week. I had to think of clothes for all three of us to take away for the weekend, buy some food for the weekend and get myself ready for the meeting, drop my son off at his Nannys for the night (another job)...........all by Thursday night.

So - I thought I'd done quite well. Come Thursday night at ten, all my list of jobs were done, Joe was happily with his Nanny and Grandad and I had everything ready for the morning with the alarm set for four in the morning to catch the early train to London.

Had a good day - very tiring - and got to the seaside looking forward to a breath of fresh air and an early night.

Went out the next day - provided funding for husband and boy to play golf - took them shopping - Joe had a new top from the animal shop but there "wasnt enough time" for me to look around.

This morning we got up early as Joe had a golf competition.  I sat down with a cup of tea to continuous nagging - we had over an hour before we had to leave but was I allowed to drink my tea in peace - no - of course I wasnt - there was tidying up to be done - there was also plenty of time but after all that nagging I just let me tea go cold and got on with it.

We got to golf and the tournament went on for ages - having said that I was very proud of my son - he did really well.

We finished there about six and husband decided he fancied a pint. So - I dropped him off at the pub and went to pick the ironing up (none of mine - just his and Joe's - I did all my own earlier in the week)
Finally after unpacking the car , putting the ironing away and going to the shop for supplies I sat down to do some website work and to watch X Factor from last night because I hadnt been allowed to last night.

I was really enjoying it when I get a text "Will you come and pick me up?"

LIKE A FOOL I DID.........................

My question is - where do I fit in  in this family?  One day will someone do something nice for me?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm - watch this space

Having said that - I feel much better now I've written it all down .Annnnnd Breathe!

Perhaps you should all try it!

Funny Day

  • I had a funny day on Monday.

I went to visit my Mum and Dad who are 84 and 86 respectively.

My son went to play golf with my nephew which was lovely, and Mum asked me to help her with a little job - I had no idea what she meant.

Anyway - I have come to realise that when you get to that age, you realise that perhaps you won't live forever.

So - Mum wanted me to go with her to where she keeps her towels, nighties, toiletries etc and prepare a bag in case she falls ill and has to go into hospital.  I didn't want to do it - I prefer not to think about these things and make the most of every moment  - but I had to do it to keep her happy.

As we went through the list of things, we kept coming across things which she wanted me to have.

The lovely lovely gold bracelet that Dad bought for her when they went to the motorbike show at Earls Court when they were first married 60 years ago - it is beautiful and kind of Grecian style - I have always admired it - and now it is kind of fashionable again.

Her engagement ring which needs cleaning but fits with my wedding ring perfectly.  I never had an engagement ring, and so I had quite a wide wedding ring - only a really narrow engagement ring would fit - this is it.

The gold locket that Dad bought Mum on their wedding day.

The gold cross that another boyfriend bought for her!!

    My Grandmas engagement ring...................

All these beautiful things are now mine.

They also wanted me to have a clear out in my old bedroom - they have been nagging me to do this for years.

There was some Helena Rubenstein perfume - Courant - that my brother bought me and my Mum when he was at university - it must me over 20 years old and will have gone off but it has sat there all this time.

The Spanish Flamenco doll in the Wolves colours that my brother also bought me.

The Cross Stitch Sampler I did at Junior School.

All special things that have no use in my life anymore..............but I couldnt throw them away.

My bedroom at my Mum and Dads house is like a shrine to my childhood and full of memories............and while Mum and Dad are still there -
  • I'm sorry, but I'm not ready to stay goodbye to them.

Weddings

Today I am going to a wedding.  I have been really looking forward to it because there are a big group of our friends going and I haven't seen them all for ages.

My husband has woken up in a foul mood - nothing I can do is right this morning.  It's raining and grey - I suddenly start to not look forward to my day at all!
I have had a spray tan - it will probably be all patchy when I shower or wash off in the rain.

I am wearing a dress that I bought for a wedding in June - the zip is very dodgy and so it will probably break when I get ready.

My shoes are very high heels - I will probably fall over and break my ankle ( I've done it twice before)

So - because of my husband's foul mood , I also found myself in a foul mood and no longer looking forward to the wedding - so what could I do to turn it around - I got to thinking about my wedding day.

It's funny your wedding day I think - the night before is weird. I didnt stay at our flat, I went home to Mum and Dad.  I went for a few drinks with some old friends and then went to bed early, but I didnt sleep - it felt weird.  All sorts of thoughts were going through my head - thinking about my life so far, thinking about Andy - I hadn't known him long when we got married - picking the first dance was difficult as we didn't even really know what music one another liked!

I got up in the morning and went over to the hairdresser - they had a bottle of champagne - my brother came round to check I was OK - he NEVER does that - but it was nice.

Then when I got home, the bridesmaids turned up, along with their Mums and Dads. My Mum and Dad were making them sandwiches and the house was a hive of activity. I didnt have time to think about anything.

Once they were ready, I did my makeup and my best friend helped me get my dress on. I remember she was nearly crying and my Mum looked very proud.

Then the cars came and everyone went except me and my Dad.  The house went from buzzing and busy to completely quiet.  It was a very odd feeling - like the end of an era.
"Susan" he said (he never calls me Susan unless I've done something wrong or unless its something important he needs to talk about).

"Do you want a drink"

We had a little drink together and we got in the car - the neighbours were out watching.  We drove down into the town and I felt a real sense of saying goodbye to everything I had ever known about my childhood there.

I will never forget it.

So - as me and Andy bicker about what needs to be done and what we are wearing and this and that - I wonder what the bride is doing this morning.............probably much the same as  I have just described - perhaps a little disappointed in the weather, but you can't let that ruin your day - I hope she is looking forward to her big day, her new life and the end of an era -

Congratulations Craig and Carlie.

Chapter 8

After a few hours sleep Roger woke up restless, so he got up and dressed in loose white trousers and a dark vest and went out. He left a note on the captains door ‘GONE FISHING’. As he left the ship he put on his sunnies and set off at a leasurely pace to find what he needed. He felt rather than saw people watching him. He didn’t see anyone because there was no-one about! He looked around catching a glimpse of lace curtain twitching but no people. *Maybe they have siestas here* it was certainly hot enough! He shrugged and carried on with his quest.

He found a deserted beach, it wasn’t difficult! Soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise sea. He walked far enough along the beach so as not to be seen, if anyone happened to be about. He striped off the vest, trousers and beach shoes, hesitated for a second and thought *fuck it* off came the speedos! He walked the few feet to the waters edge then waded in until it was deep enough for him to dive into the waves. Naked and swimming in the sea, he was ‘happy as a pig in shit’ as his Granddad would say!

Later as he lay drying in the sun he heard some voices so he quickly put on the speedos just in case they came round the corner. It was a good job he had as two girls came round the corner and gasped when they saw him lying there in a pair of teeny black speedos, they looked at him as if they’d never seen such a sight before! *Weird!* “Excuse us sir sorry for intruding we did not know that someone would be here.”
“That’s ok ladies. Hey aren’t you the girls from last night?” he jumped up, his young toned tanned body glistening with the last drops of sea water in the sun. One of the girls turned away, suddenly shy it would seem. The other, older he presumed held his eye and introduced herself
“Oh yes it’s you” she laughed
“Find anywhere good? I’m Melina and this is my sister Jenifer.”
“Hi I’m Roger” he held out his hand
“nice to meet you. Would your sister prefer me to um cover up?”  Melina laughed “I suppose you should. We’re not used to such public displays of the body” *no matter how beautiful* she thought to herself.
“Oh sorry” as he slipped into the trousers, but left off the top, he had a feeling this Melina kind of like it.
He fell into step alongside them as they began to walk away. “So how are you liking it here so far?” Jenifer asked, braver now she had something else to focus on.
“Well it seems pretty good so far, but we have noticed some um odd things”
“Really?” asked Melina
“How so?”
“ Oh like no cars and no people about in the early afternoon” the girls laughed.
“Care to explain?” he laughed
“I tell you what why don’t you meet me at the ship tomorrow morning, then you can show me around as you tell me all about this place.” “We couldn’t possibly” said Jenifer
“Of course Roger that sounds like a good idea” Melina replied, Jenifer looked at her in surprise.
“Ok then shall we say 10am?”
“Ok I’ll meet you at your ship” “Till then then” he waved and climbed back on board. Jenifer turned to her sister and said
“What the devil are you doing? You shouldn’t be doing this.”
“I know isn’t it fun” she laughed as she span around looking forward to whatever tomorrow may bring.

Chapter 9.

Roger & Melina’s day out.

Melina got up early the next day, trying to not wake Jenifer, but Jenifer had not slept well and began to stir. “Mel?” she said with a yawn
“Yes, sorry, didn’t mean to wake you Jen.”
“hmmm s’ok you didn’t, didn’t sleep well.”
“Oh are you ok?”
“Yes, just worried about you.”
“Why?”
“You know why. You still going through with this today? What if someone sees you and tells father?”
“Come with me then”
“As if you want me to tag along” she smiled.
“Oh Jen don’t fret so, I’m just going to show him around the island, maybe stop somewhere for a picnic.”
“Got it all planned out have you? What if he wants more?”
“Do you think he might?” she tingled at the thought of the handsome stranger she was meeting soon. The site of him on the beach had awakened something in her that until now had lain dormant. The island was slowly losing it’s grip on one of it’s occupants. The future no longer black and white but starting to fill with colour for Melina Magraw.

After a much less adventurous night Roger woke at a reasonable hour. He yawned and stretched his sleep warm limbs back to life. He felt the early morning sun on his skin as he lay in his hammock, eyes still shut. He always slung his hammock out on deck, hating being cooped up inside for too long. He loved the night sky full of shining stars and promise. As he dragged his mind back to the day he remembered he was going out with the lovely feisty Melina, mmmm he had such plans for today. Oh such wonderful plans.

Jenifer followed Melina down the staircase, Melina laughed
“Jen you know me better than that I wouldn’t do anything untoward with him.”
“You sound so sure but you don’t know him. What if he makes you do…things?”
“Depends what they….are!” she giggled, Jenifer gasped and stomped off and back to bed,
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you my sister!” Melina really was in a good and frivolous mood today, she didn’t know what had gotten into her, but, she liked it. She packed a light lunch of finger foods and fruits, and a flask of cold homemade lemonade. She wrapped a light shawl around her shoulders and picked up her parasol from by the kitchen door as she left the house an innocent young girl who would return……changed.

But how?

Roger was leaning over the side of the ship when he saw her coming. He quickly ran to the gangway trying to beat the Captain from seeing her. Too late, he already had and was on his way down to greet her. Damn he hoped she didn’t fall for his charm! As Roger reached them he heard him say “Well maybe we can all meet up later tonight for a drink” Roger shook his head and smiled, good ol’ Captain always on the prowl. Simon smiled and winked at him as they passed. “Hi, Melina, I’m glad you came. I’m looking forward to seeing the island” Simon nearly choked on his laughter at that, oh the poor girl really didn’t stand a chance with Roger if he was pulling the Jolly Roger charm out the bag. He must really like this one!

They walked along the harbour road chatting happily. They came to the beach and he led her down to the shoreline, he just loved the way the waves washed over his feet, when he was a child he used to dream about being a merman, he chuckled. “What’s so funny?”
“Oh did I really just do that?”
“What? Laugh? Yes you did.”
“Oh I was remembering something from when I was a boy.”
“Care to share?”
“Maybe….later”

Melina pointed out this and that to him as they wandered the island until they found a small cove
“Wow this is fantastic, shall we stop here for a while?”
“OK” as she placed the basket on the soft white sand. Roger lay out the blankets he had bought with him and they sat down. Melina lay out the picnic and Roger smiled *ahhh this was just getting better and better*. “So Mel, may I call you Mel?”
“I guess so, if you want to”
“So Mel, tell me about your island. There is something odd here isn’t there?”
Well as it isn’t MY island I can’t really tell you much”
“Ahh so you got me here on false pretences”
“Pardon?”
“You said you could tell me about the island” he laughed “Don’t worry I’m only pulling your leg” she breathed a sigh of relief at that and laughed gently
“Ohhhh”
“The island belongs to the Kemps, you’ve met Gary and Martin, Lucy’s brothers”
“Yes”
“Well it’s their family”
“Ahhh that explains it then”
“What’s that then?”
“The way they, well Gary at least goes around acting like they own the place, they really do” he found this highly amusing.
“The strange things like what for instants?”
“Like the lack of cars and motor vehicles?”
“What are they then?”
“You’re kidding me right?”
“No”
“No way!” so he took his time and explained them to her, her face disbelieving.

Chapter 10.

Roger had walked Melina home in the late afternoon and left her at the garden gate with a gentlemanly kiss on the hand. He had looked deep into her eyes and promised to do something special at the weekend. He walked back to the ship with a ‘jolly’ swagger and a Cheshire cat smile on his face, *phase one completed* - act the total gentleman that even your granny would love to meet!  The captain took one look at him as he boarded and laughed “Jesus Roger just look at you will ya” Roger laughed,
“What are you doing to that poor innocent girl?”
“Nothing” he replied “Pull the other one it’s got bells on! I heard you earlier, you’re giving her the ‘Jolly’ Roger charm aren’t you?”
“Well you know me” he winked and rolled into his hammock. “Don’t get too comfy we’re out tonight” Roger raised his head waiting
“Beach party. Tufty and I are sorting it you just need to be there”

The captain and Tufty had had a productive day with the sellers that had turned up and when two of the girls from the previous night had walked by, Lucy and Natasha, they had quickly invited all 4 of the girls to join them later on the beach. The girls, well Lucy had agreed straight away. Natasha had taken a bit of persuading, but had agreed in the end with a shy smile at John.
LATER THAT NIGHT……

Simon and John went out along the shore to find a secluded area suitable for their party. They collected drift wood as they went, for the fire. They had bought with them some ale and the fish they had purchased earlier that day. As the sun set they saw Nick and Roger approach with the girls, all 4 had turned up. Roger they noticed was carrying the guitar they’d asked him to bring with him.  They all sat around the campfire and chatted, slowly at first, the girls shy, while the captain cooked the food. They all had cups of the ale, the girls sipped theirs as they were not used to it.
As the fire crackled in the dark Roger and Melina moved away from the group, not too far, just far enough so they could talk in private. Roger reached towards her and tucked a loose curl behind her ear. She swayed towards him and he touched her cheek. He could feel her blush as he cupped her face gently with his hand resting his thumb on her cheekbone, stroking her smooth skin. Slowly he leaned in, sensing her hesitation he smiled at her and looked deep into her eyes, he kissed her, her first kiss. She held her breath as their lips met. Her breath was still held and her eyes stayed closed as he broke the kiss, he whispered “breathe Mel”. She slowly opened her eyes and exhaled, he was smiling at her,
“oh my” was all she could say.

Nick had left a little while ago and had now returned with Chloe and Scarlett. He sat with them either side of him as they ran their hands over him. Lucy watched boggled eyed.  Never having seen such displays of affection, she dragged her eyes away and sat staring hungrily at Simon. Her 17 year old heart beating so wildly it hurt. Natasha and Jenifer chatted quietly together while watching John. He smiled at them both and they gazed at him dreamily, while John strummed the guitar and Simon sang along.

Not too much later the boys walked the girl’s home, leaving Nick on the beach with his twins. Roger and Melina hung back behind the others as they walked. The boys were playing a good game, the girls were all hook.

They had no idea just how dangerous the game would be.

Chapter 11

That weekend true to his word Roger had arranged a day out for himself and Melina. When Melina arrived at the ship to meet him he had two beautiful horses with him, one was a light tan colour with a pale cream coloured mane and tail, the other was black with no other colour on it at all. She smiled,
“I told you we’d do something special this weekend didn’t I” Roger murmured next to her ear with a slight kiss. She looked deep into his eyes unsure if she’d imagined it or not.
“Stop looking at me like that or I’ll have to kiss you properly right here!” he laughed. He helped her to mount her horse side saddle then he mounted his own, attaching a bag of supplies to the saddle. They rode towards the centre of the island, 20 minutes into the ride they bumped into Gary.
“Well Melina what’s all this then? Out without a chaperone? Do your parents know?”
“Why don’t you mind your own business Gary” she glowered at him. Roger looked at her shocked,
“We’re just riding out, she’s showing me the island Gary, it’s very beautiful”
“I know. Why don’t I take you home Mel, they’ll be worried.”
“My NAME is Melina! Gary, now leave us alone and move out of the way.” Gary shrugged
“Don’t say I didn’t offer just be careful Melina you don’t know him”
“Oh but I do and he’s more of a gentleman than you’ll ever be!” she spat at him and kicked her horse into a gallop. Roger followed her wondering what the hell that was all about. Gary just stared after them deflated and sighed.

Gary

“But Mel I love you” He said to no-one in particular with a sad look on his face.
Gary had loved Melina Magraw for as long as he could remember, he didn’t treat her any differently to any of his sister’s friends but he always listened to her. Oh he had the twins Chloe and Scarlett but that was just for sex. He didn’t have feelings for them, his heart was hers. He had no idea how to behave towards her, his mother and father had not been very demonstrative with each other. He just expected her, to feel, and to know how he felt. He hoped to marry her one day, she would help him to deal with his sister she seemed to know just what to do to calm her.  He loved his sister and certainly didn’t want their father to send her away to the nuns, but she was so damn head-strong.

Gary pulled his horse round and rode all the way to the twin’s house so fast that by the time he got there the poor horse was foaming at the mouth and snorting its displeasure.  He stormed through the gate, up the path and banged on the front door, ferociously.
Inside Chloe ran down the stairs wondering what all the noise was about. When she saw Gary’s features through the window she pulled the belt of her dressing gown tight around her waist. “Hey! Hey! What’s all the noise about? Some people need to sleep around here” she yelled as she pulled open the door. She wasn’t prepared for the force with which Gary entered. He pushed the door wide open so it rattled on its hinges then flung it shut. He grabbed her roughly and pulled her to him. He kissed her hard and she twisted her head away,
“Gary, lovely to see you as always, but not so rough please” she said calmly. “Come here you fuckin’ bitch! Don’t tell me what to do!” and he lunged at her, pulling at her gown. She grabbed it tight holding it closed and turned to move away, but he was on her.
“GARY! What the fuck is going on? Calm down!”  When she saw the look on his face she suddenly got worried and backed away towards the stairs.
“I SAID COME HERE BITCH!” and he ran towards her, she turned and ran as fast as she could up the stairs, trying to get to her bedroom with the locking door. He grabbed at her ankle and pulled her down the stairs towards him, she fell with a thud and screamed as she realised something was terribly wrong. She kicked out wildly at him as he clawed his way up her body, scratching her skin raw. She managed to get away when he howled in pain as her heel connected with his eye. She ran away limping, breathing heavily with fright. As she closed the bedroom door she fumbled with the lock her hands shaking. She could hear him roaring as he approached the room he had been in many times, happily. He slammed into the door smashing his way through knocking her over, she lay there stunned, not moving, he didn’t care. He grabbed her hair and started to pull her towards the bed, she screamed in pain, tears of fear now flowing down her beautiful face. She moved her legs trying to ease the pain the pulling of her hair was causing, her hands, one on her head trying to protect it and the other on the floor for leverage. He grabbed her and threw her onto her bed, which Nick had only recently vacated. She gasped and gulped as the tears flowed, her raven hair sticking to the wetness. He fell on the bed and forced her legs apart, she did her best to hinder him, but he was so strong with this unrecognisable rage he was in. He leaned over her ripping open her gown revealing her smooth tanned breasts and roughly ran his hands over them,
“Gary! Please, please don’t do this” she begged “please God no!.....HELP ME” she screamed. He held his hand over her mouth to quiet her and she managed to bite it.
She saw him raise his fist

In a total panic she cried
“Oh God Gary! No Please donnnnnnnnnnn….”
She fell silent as his fist connected with her cheek.

Scarlett and Nick came back at that moment, they had been shopping. Seeing the disarray inside the house they dropped everything and immediately started calling Chloe. They both ran up the stairs. Hearing noises as the reached the top they looked at each other – was she expecting anyone? They made their way quickly and quietly towards her room. Nick felt uneasy as Scarlett went through the door first, she screamed,
“CHLOE!” seeing her sister lying there, almost naked, scratches up her legs, her hair all over the place hiding her face. Chloe didn’t move. They ran forward to her still calling her name. Nick ran to the open window, the only place whoever it was could have gone, he heard someone gallop off on a horse but didn’t see who it was. Shit! Whoever it was, was certainly agile. He went back to the bed, the doctor in him coming to the fore.

Nick smoothed her hair from her face revealing the start of a livid bruise. Scarlett gasped and sat on the bed, gently calling her name
“Chloe, Chloe hunny wake up, please Chlo please wake up. Nick you’re a doctor can’t you do something?” “Go get me some ice in a towel Scarlett, I’ll do what I can here then we’ll get her to the ship. I have everything there. Do you have a buggy with your horse?”
“Yes”
“Set it up there’s no way she will be able to ride let alone walk that far.”
“OK Nick” she kissed her sister gently on the forehead and ran down the stairs, wondering who the hell had done this to her. When she came back Chloe was starting to come round, she was moaning in pain, Nick was talking to her in a soft voice
“Chloe? Chloe everything’s going to be fine now my love. Scarlett and I are going to take you away from here, to the ship. You’ll be safe there, no-one will be able to find you. Shhh, shhhhh…..” as he gently stroked her hair.

The red mist had disappeared as quickly as it arrived in Gary. When he saw her lying there on the bed motionless he panicked and ran. How the hell had he got as far that? He wasn’t a violent man, passionate yes but never violent. He felt so much shame right now and he thanked God that he’d stopped before he’d actually raped her. What he’d done was bad enough but if he’d done that……..

He remembered seeing Melina go off with Roger and getting pissed off but surely that wasn’t the cause.

Was he………..

                       …………simply…………….

                                                                ………….Jealous?

Chapter 12

Together they bundled her into the buggy and set off to the ship. Chloe was awake now but still in shock, she moaned as the buggy jolted her every now and then. Nick held her close talking to her in a calm quiet voice, deep and melodic. Scarlett drove the horse as hard as she dared, she couldn’t get the imagine of Chloe passed out on the bed out of her head. She vowed to find who had done this to her and get her revenge. As soon as she could she would go and see Gary, for he was the only one she knew who would be able to help without going to the police.
As they clattered to a halt by the ship Nick called out
“CAPTAIN!.....CAPTAIN!…TUFTY ANYONE COME AND HELP US” the men leaned over the side and saw Nick there with the twins,
“What’s up Doc?” John called down
“I need your help to carry her up to my cabin…please.”
“OK I’m coming” and he ran down to the buggy. Tufty picked her up with ease and carried her on board wondering just what the hell Nick had got involved in now. Scarlett paid a local to take the buggy home for her out of sight and then followed them up. Simon helped her on board and asked
“Are you all ok? What’s happened?” “We don’t know yet. We got home to find Chlo in a right mess knocked out. Looks like we interrupted whoever it was thank God.”
“Fuck! Do you know who it was?”
“No” she sighed “sadly he got away” “Maybe she’ll remember and be able to tell the police later.”
“I hope so but there’s no way she’ll go to the police, they’ll just blame the club, even though it happened at home” she said angrily.
“I’m going to tell Gary, he’ll know what to do.” Scarlett left him then to go into Nick’s cabin, she needed to be close to her twin. “Nick” she whispered as she opened the door, he beckoned her over
“Come in Scarlett my dear”
“How is she?” she asked with a hint of fear in her voice
“Physically she’ll be fine in a week or so, but..”
“But what?”
“But how she’ll cope mentally is to difficult to tell at the moment. We won’t know the answer to that till she’s more awake.” She went and sat on the edge of the bed and held her hand,
“Chlo hunny” Chloe opened her eyes and looked at her sister, a single tear ran down her cheek,
“Oh Chlo who did this to you?” as she held her tight, Chloe’s body shuddered as the tears began to fall full force.
Nick left the cabin and closed the door to give them some privacy. He went and found the others and sat down. The captain handed him a brandy “Drink it it’ll help. What’s happened Doc?” Nick filled them in as best he could, he could only guess at what had happened before they had got back from shopping, it didn’t bare thinking about, he shuddered at the thought.
When he’d finished and admittedly there wasn’t that much he could tell them the captain was furious
“SHIT! She’d better stay here she’ll be safe with someone here all the time, until we find out who did this.” “Thanks captain” Nick said.
Back in the bedroom Scarlett held her sister and said
“I’ll fetch Gary, he’ll be able t…” Chloe shook her head “No! No-one” she whispered vehemently “Why not? Surely you want to catch whoever it was” again she shook her head and started shaking
“Ok, ok no-one hunny shhhhh calm down shhhh” she crooned. When she’d finally dropped off to sleep Scarlett quietly slipped out of the room and went in search of the others. She found them out on deck, they all turned to her and got up. “Hey how is she?”
“Sleeping now. She won’t let me tell Gary though” she frowned. “She’s probably just to frightened to even talk about it, and isn’t he likely to go nuts when he finds out?”
“True he will. God what a mess. Poor Chlo” she sat down next to Nick and let the tears flow now.

Chapter 13
Lucy’s awakening. Part 1

Later that week Melina came by the ship to see Roger, Lucy had tagged along with her asking all sorts of questions about Roger and what he was like. “What does it feel like when he kisses you Mel?” “Lucy!”
“Well I want to know” she said, pouting.
“Oh Lucy you do make me laugh” she chuckled at her young friend. “Please tell Mel, perleeeease” she skipped around her dancing.
“It’s soft and…”
“And what…..?”
“Well it’s just so lovely and makes me feel all warm inside. I tingle all over and never want it to stop” Melina sighed. “Oh Mel you’re so lucky, I wish I could feel that. Maybe the captain might like me a bit, he was looking at me the other night.”
“He’s a bit old for you Luce”
“No he’s not” she stuck her chin out
“If you say so Luce, but I’m sure your family would disagree.”
“Oh what would they know or care! Come on let’s go”
As they climbed the gang plank Lucy went to board but Mel grabbed her to stop her
“Wait Luce!”
“Why?”
“You have to ask permission to board, Roger told me”
“Oh ok. Hello” she called out. Roger popped his head over the edge of his hammock. Seeing Melina he swung his legs round and jumped out, “Hello girls” he came to where they stood
“Permission to come aboard?”
“Permission granted” he smiled and he took her hand to help her board, it was soft and warm, Melina smiled her eyes shining. He held Lucy’s hand as she climbed on board too,
“Hi Lucy, nice to see you this morning. You come for the tour?” he laughed. “Hi Roger, that would be great. I’ve never been on a ship before.”
“Well come then lil lady let me show you round” he still held Melina’s hand as he escorted them below deck.
Later as the threesome sat out on deck talking, Simon came out, in a pair of shorts. Lean and tanned he yawned, stretched and rubbed his fingers through his hair. Lucy couldn’t take her eyes off him, mesmerised by his blond beauty. He caught her eye and she looked away but not until they’d shared a moment where his eyes bore into hers. “Well hi there Lucy-Lou watchya doin?”
“Hello, this is a beautiful ship Captain Longhorn” Simon nearly choked at that
“Little Lucy-Lou you really shouldn’t tease me” he chuckled, she looked confused.
“Simon… behave” Melina laughed
“What? What’d I do? Lucy come walk with me.” Lucy followed him off the ship. He dressed as he walked.
They walked quickly through the crowds and market he bought fruits and drinks as they went, heading inland. She picked wild flowers as they wandered through meadows and lanes. “Do you mind if I just go in here for a moment?” Lucy asked pointing to a church,
“Of course not, shall I come with you?”
“No it’s ok I’ll be but a minute” as she opened the gate. He watched her walk slowly through the graves, she stopped and removed some old flowers from one and lay the new ones in their place. She knelt at the stone and with her finger traced the letters, SARA KEMP. Beloved wife and mother, she sighed and wiped a stray tear away. Simon made his way towards her and touched her shoulder as he crouched down beside her and read the stone. Putting his arm around her he helped her up
“You ok sweatheart?”
“Ohh…yes I’m fine thanks” and she was he could just…tell.

As they continued their wanderings Simon quoting poetry Lucy was falling deeper under his spell, she had no idea how her naivety turned him on. “Captain, what’s it like? Living on the sea in that ship.” “Lucy-Lou it is the best life you could ever imagine. No one telling you what to do, where to go or when to be there. It’s a freedom like you’ve never known.”
“I’d love to be like you with so much freedom, Captain” He bent down to whisper in her ear
“You can call me Simon you know Lucy-Lou” she looked up into his face and their noses bumped, she didn’t look away so forcing him to break it. He could almost taste her excitement, it was intoxicating he had to hold himself steady to stop himself pouncing on her. “Why do you keep calling me Lucy-Lou? No ones called me that for years. Simon.” Oh God help him he didn’t think he’d be able to resist her innocence for much longer. “To remind myself your too young Lucy-Lou” he sighed.
“Why does everyone thing I’m too young or you’re too old? Who cares?” she was so close now so close he could feel her body heat, he could smell her clean hair. He looked down and her big blue eyes were right there pulling him in. She raised herself on her tiptoes, he closed his eyes and before he knew their lips met. He pulled away.
“Simon what is it? Did I do something wrong?” a tear threatened to fall, she looked confused.
“Damn it Lucy-Lou” he sighed
“STOP IT! STOP CALLING ME THAT! I…AM NOT….A CHILD!”
“Damn it Lucy, you have no idea what you’re getting into here with me.”
“Maybe not, but maybe I want it anyway” she stuck out her chin in defiance. “Oh sweet jesus” he moaned as his lips fell on hers crushing them, she yielded to him and gave herself willing. He wrapped his arms around her and her hands moved up his back of their own accorded. Her lips were swollen, her cheeks blushed and her eyes sparkled when they parted. He licked his lips as he stared down at her. He had her wanting now so he needed to stop. “Lucy-Lou you beautiful bewitching woman I think I love you, I must take you home before we do something you might regret.”
“ohhhhh………” she whimpered biting her lip not really understanding what he meant. “We must not rush and spoil it my darling, come, let’s go now.” They walked passed an old run down cottage as they made their way back, Simon decided to go and explore. He held Lucy’s hand and led the way,
“Do you think we should Simon?”
“Why ever not Lucy-Lou? No one lives here that much is obvious. Are you scared?”
“No!” she moved towards the building and looked in through the window. Simon went to the door and pushed it, it opened and he went in, Lucy looked up and followed him in. She walked straight into the back of Simon who was standing stock still hands on hips laughing,
“What is it? What’s so funny?” she asked as she moved round him to see. A big bed freshly made stood in the centre of the room, she looked at it then at him, he smiled down at her and said,
“The God’s must want it Lucy-Lou, it’s fate this is.”
“What is?”
“You. Me. This bed. We are obviously meant to be together.”
After Simon had left her at the gate he went back to the ship, his plan was working he chuckled to himself. Nick was there when he got there,
“Hello Nicolas, everything ok with our guest?”
“Yes she is doing well. What have you been up to?”
“Nothing” he laughed
“Oh Hell I know that look, you’ve been making trouble haven’t you?”
“Only the best kind my friend!”
“Oh dear God who is your poor victim this time?”
“Now that, would be telling.” He laughed
“Let’s just say my plan is working and she’ll soon be begging for it. Coulda done it today but you know, I’m playing cat and mouse with this one, having myself some fun” Nick just shook his head and laughed at his friend and captain. He always won the maiden however long it took and he always decided the speed in which it happened.

About a month ago our electricity went off……..hubby went to look…..just tripped he said……sorted he said……made my way upstairs to bed…..no lights…..no working sockets…….the next morning…no hot water……Guess I’ll have to ring an electrician he said……..three days of groping in the dark at bedtime and having to remember to turn the tank on and off….I asked him if he had rung…….no hadn’t got around to it……I gave him one of my looks……..Electrician arrived…….spent a few hours checking…..then told me we needed a new timer…..he went off and returned the same day….that’s what I call service!!!

Fixed or so we thought……tripped again….back to square one…..a week later the electrician arrived again……don’t you love it when they stand there and say “what seems to be the problem?”……..eeerrr it’s not working……..faulty timer he says……and disappeared again…..after several phone calls he returned….. “what seems to be the…………”

He stopped there …..must have been my look…….five minutes later he received a phone call and said he needed to go…… an emergency…….would be back later……..four days passed…..hubby rang up…….he was in France….the boss man would be in touch…….another week of cold showers ……..which was beginning to cause more than a few arguments over who forgot to turn it on or worse still who didn’t turn it off!!!!! As the house rattled under the weight of pipes full of scorching water……that we had to run off as it was too hot to use!!!!

Weekend before last  I went to St Malo ……….it was a colleagues leaving do……we arranged it all with her husband….she knew absolutely nothing about it………………………..Most people were just going for the day but a few of us decided that it would be fun to stay over…………….including one of our male teachers who just happens to be gay……………………..well as the weekend got nearer  one by one people started to drop out of staying over with somewhat lame excuses!!!

Until it was just me and this gay bloke………..I was really fed up but just did not feel I could let him down……….I ran it by hubby who just laughed which got my back up and made me even more determined to stay….but boy did I take some ribbing…….. “keep off him , you know he bats for the other side”……..to……. “ oooh just imagine two lacy nighties side by side”…………..He had contacted me to say it was much cheaper to share a twin room rather than have a room each……..had he told everyone??......

Well the day arrived and everyone was in good spirits…..some more than others as a litre of vodka was purchased and opened on the boat….my best mate was one of them and she was quite tipsy by the time we arrived in St. Malo………I was no angel….I did have a couple…
