They spit. And sometimes blow snot out of their noses in front of millions. I’m not talking about water bison on the nature channel, but of course a world cup footballer. Some of them are charming, eligible and good looking I’m sure, but they are all jolly fit and toned, so what can we learn from how they eat?
Meticulous menu planning has been one of the biggest changes to footballers’ lives since England won the World Cup in 1966 when a diet of chip butties, ketchup, tea and a packet of Rothmans was still seen as acceptable preparation. It seems like years since we last heard some good news about the economy. Job losses, falling house prices, pay freezes are the depressing staples of today’s media. Retailers are frantically trying to avoid the fate of MFI and Woolworths. Many of my friends are tightening their belts and putting off extending their home, changing their car, or booking a dirty weekend.
But we’re all getting a little bit tired of hearing it. Just as women in the Second World War held their heads high and just got on with it, finding that there’s great joy in the camaraderie that results from being in the same (sinking) ship, we can take some time out from the daily grind and have some good old fashioned fun.

With food prices on the increase, Chantal Denny-Harrow looks at how we can avoid the unhealthy bogofs and eat as healthily as possible…
I always think it’s interesting how we would never consciously put the wrong petrol into our cars and yet we often fuel our bodies with food that is substandard, devoid of nutritional value, even damaging. This analogy makes you think, doesn’t it? How much value do we give ourselves?
At the end of the day, nothing can be more important than your health.
